The Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Distinguished Senator Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, has passed a vote of confidence on the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the Federal Government’s road infrastructure interventions in the South-East.
Onyia made the declaration on Monday during a NANS delegation’s assessment tour of federal road projects in Onitsha, Anambra State, where he highlighted the importance of improved road networks to economic growth, regional connectivity and the welfare of Nigerian students.
The delegation, comprising NANS national executive members, zonal and state officials, campus leaders and students, inspected several projects, including the Enugu–Onitsha dual carriageway, the Second Niger Bridge linking road, the Asaba–Onitsha Road Phase 2B and the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway.
Speaking during the exercise, Onyia praised the construction standards and progress observed on the projects, while acknowledging the role of the Federal Ministry of Works in supervising infrastructure delivery.
He said the projects represented important investments in transportation infrastructure, with the potential to improve movement between states, support commercial activities and enhance road safety.

“On behalf of NANS, we specifically appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for opening up these vital corridors,” Onyia said.
He described the dualisation works, the Second Niger Bridge Phase 2B, the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway and the Eke/Obinagu flyover as infrastructure projects capable of creating economic opportunities and strengthening inter-state commerce.
According to him, improved road connectivity would benefit students travelling for academic activities, traders transporting goods and other commuters who depend on the corridors daily.
“These interventions will reduce travel time, lower vehicle operating costs, stimulate local economies along the corridors and significantly improve safety for all citizens of Anambra, the South-East and adjoining states,” he stated.
The NANS Senate President subsequently announced a vote of confidence in Umahi, commending what he described as the minister’s commitment, hands-on supervision and focus on infrastructure delivery.
He also commended President Tinubu for sustaining investment in road infrastructure and urged the Ministry of Works to maintain its supervision of the projects through to completion.
Onyia further encouraged Nigerian students to remain actively involved in monitoring public projects and offering constructive feedback to relevant authorities.
He reaffirmed NANS’ commitment to engaging government institutions and supporting initiatives aimed at national development and improved public infrastructure. #
