There was jubilation at the Njikoka Local Government Secretariat in Anambra State following the restoration of electricity after 13 years without power, barely one week after the assumption of office of the council chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Ikechukwu Okakpu.

Electricity supply to the secretariat was reportedly disconnected by the then Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in 2013, leaving workers to operate without public power supply for more than a decade.

However, the newly sworn-in chairman has restored electricity to the facility, a development that has generated excitement among council workers and renewed optimism about the administration’s commitment to improving working conditions.

Overwhelmed by the development, jubilant workers reportedly trooped to the chairman’s office to express their appreciation for what they described as a significant achievement in his first week in office.

“After 13 years without electricity at the secretariat, this development has brought renewed hope to us. Indeed, Solution is here!” the excited workers exclaimed.

Responding, Okakpu described the restoration as the beginning of a new phase for the local government, assuring workers that his administration would continue to pursue improvements aimed at making their jobs easier and more efficient.

“This is a new beginning under my leadership as far as the people of Njikoka are concerned,” the chairman said.

He added that the restoration of electricity was only the first step, expressing confidence that further improvements would follow to strengthen service delivery and enhance the working environment at the secretariat.

The development marks an early milestone for the new administration, with workers hopeful that sustained improvements in infrastructure and working conditions will translate into more effective service delivery across Njikoka Local Government Area.
