Awka is set for a high-energy Sunday as celebrated Afro-highlife musician African China headlines the BIG WEEKEND SHOW organised by Nigerian Breweries at the award-winning Nwoke Udi Palmwine Bar on Abakaliki Street.

The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, with veteran entertainer and MC Alcapela billed to host the evening.

Organisers say the show will combine live entertainment, music and a range of activities built around Nigerian Breweries’ brands, with guests expected to enjoy an evening of music, drinks and giveaways.

The return of the BIG WEEKEND SHOW to Nwoke Udi is significant, as Nigerian Breweries has previously used the venue for its branded entertainment activities. The palm-wine bar has continued to attract a strong clientele in Awka, particularly with its open-air setting and lively atmosphere.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mazi Ndubisi Eze, Chief Executive Officer of Nwoke Udi Palmwine Bar and Nnaochie Foods, said preparations had been concluded to deliver a memorable experience for guests.

“We have concluded plans to host a top-notch party,” Eze said.

He added that the venue had strengthened its service arrangements ahead of the expected crowd.

To improve customer experience, the management has also introduced a bar code payment system, which is expected to enable guests to make payments faster and reduce time spent waiting in queues.

Security arrangements have equally been put in place, with the venue’s attendants and supervisors expected to respond promptly to any issues during the event.

African China, one of the enduring names in Nigeria’s Afro-highlife and contemporary music scene, is expected to bring his familiar sound and popular records to the Awka crowd. His appearance is also expected to attract both longtime fans and younger music lovers familiar with his songs.

With Alcapela handling the hosting duties, the organisers are looking to maintain the energy between musical performances and other activities throughout the evening.

The previous edition of the BIG WEEKEND SHOW also featured major giveaways, with customers reportedly going home with items including refrigerators, television sets and cartons of drinks, among other prizes.

With a popular live performer, an established entertainment venue and Nigerian Breweries’ branded activation coming together, Sunday’s event is expected to draw a sizeable crowd to Nwoke Udi Palmwine Bar.

The BIG WEEKEND SHOW begins at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, at Nwoke Udi Palmwine Bar, Abakaliki Street, Awka, Anambra State.
