Anambra Police Raid Suspected Cult Gathering in Onitsha, Arrest 25-Year-Old Man

The Anambra State Police Command has raided a suspected cult gathering in Fegge, Onitsha, arresting a 25-year-old man and launching a manhunt for other suspected members who fled the scene.

The operation was carried out on Sunday, September 27, 2026, after operatives of the Fegge Police Station received credible intelligence about the gathering at Abagana Street in the area.

Acting on the information, police operatives moved to the location and arrested the suspect, identified as Chinedu Ike, while other persons reportedly fled upon sighting the officers.

The police said preliminary interrogation indicated that Ike allegedly admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity.

Following the operation, the command said it had commenced intelligence-led efforts to identify, trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The police are also investigating the alleged involvement of the suspects in cult-related activities and other violent crimes within the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has directed that the case be transferred to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit (VCRU) for discreet investigation and further necessary action.

The Commissioner said the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led and proactive policing strategies to disrupt cult-related activities and prevent associated violence across the state.

“The Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led and proactive policing strategies to disrupt cult-related activities, prevent associated acts of violence and bring persons found to be involved in such criminal activities to justice,” the statement quoted CP Oji Ama as saying.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects.

The police also appealed to residents to report suspicious activities and information that could help strengthen ongoing efforts to tackle cult-related violence in the state.
