The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has intensified its crackdown on traffic offenders, leading to the arrest of 22 motorists and the conviction of 21 by a Mobile Court during a special enforcement operation aimed at improving road safety across the state.

The operation, conducted under the Zonal Special Intervention Patrol code-named “Fushin Kada”, took place along the busy Awka–Onitsha Expressway on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, as part of a nationwide directive from the FRSC Road Safety National Headquarters (RSHQ) to strengthen enforcement of traffic regulations.

The Sector Public Education Officer, SRC Margaret Onabe, disclosed the outcome in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the exercise targeted motorists violating critical road safety rules that contribute to road traffic crashes.

According to her, the Mobile Court, presided over by Her Worship Maria Anyabolu, prosecuted all 22 offenders arrested during the operation.

“Out of the 22 offenders prosecuted, 21 were convicted, while one offender was discharged by the court,” Onabe stated.

She revealed that the offenders committed a total of 61 traffic violations, with failure to install speed-limiting devices accounting for the highest number of offences.

The offences recorded include:

• Failure to install Speed Limiting Device – 12
• Overloading – 7
• Seatbelt Use Violation – 6
• Driver’s Licence Violation – 4
• Number Plate Violation – 4
• Dangerous Driving – 2
• Assaulting an FRSC Marshal on Duty – 1
• Attempting to Corrupt an FRSC Marshal – 1
• Other traffic-related offences.

The FRSC said the enforcement exercise forms part of its sustained strategy to improve compliance with traffic laws, reduce reckless driving and minimise the incidence of road crashes on major highways.

Speaking on the operation, the Anambra Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, stressed that the agency remains committed to enforcing road safety regulations without compromise.

“The exercise is aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic laws, promoting responsible road use and reducing road traffic crashes on major highways within the state,” she said.

She urged both commercial and private motorists to obey all traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, install mandatory safety devices, and carry valid vehicle and driver’s documents at all times.

Asekhauno further assured road users that similar enforcement operations and Mobile Court sittings would continue across the state as part of efforts to safeguard lives and property.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps will sustain enforcement activities to promote safer roads and protect lives and property,” the statement added.
