The Nigerian Navy, through Naval Outpost Onitsha, has handed over a 44-year-old suspect, Mr. Chukwu Ebuka Obas, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Onitsha Area Command, following his arrest over alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking.
The suspect, who is from Orsumoghu Community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, was formally transferred to the anti-drug agency by the Commanding Officer of Naval Outpost Onitsha, Commander Kabir Yusuf, during a handover ceremony held at the administrative block of the naval facility.
According to the Navy’s handover report, Obas was arrested on July 15, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by naval personnel at Uga Junction in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Security operatives reportedly recovered a sack containing 30 packs of expired Mamagra Viagra 100ml, 100 packs of FIKA Viagra 100ml, herbal roots, and a one-litre plastic bottle containing a liquid substance suspected to be an illicit drug.
“The suspect was intercepted during a routine stop-and-search operation, and the recovered items have been handed over alongside him for further investigation by the NDLEA,” the report stated.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Navy, indicated that the suspect allegedly purchased the expired drugs at Diamond Line in Ogbogwu Market, Onitsha.
The Navy further alleged that Obas was travelling to Orsumoghu Community in Ihiala Local Government Area, where he intended to distribute the items to customers.
The report also claimed that the destination area has been identified by security agencies as having the presence of IPOB/ESN members and other armed criminal elements.
“Further investigation may provide useful intelligence capable of identifying suppliers of the suspected illicit substances and other individuals involved in the illegal drug trade,” the report added.
The suspect and all recovered exhibits have since been handed over to the NDLEA, which is expected to continue investigations and determine appropriate legal action.
