Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved two major federal highway projects considered critical to improving transportation and economic integration across the South-East and parts of the North-Central.

Soludo disclosed the development in a post on his official Facebook page, revealing that the approval followed discussions with President Tinubu and subsequent engagements with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.

According to the governor, he met with President Tinubu on July 1, after which the Minister of Works requested detailed information on the proposed road projects.

“The next day, the Hon. Minister for Works and Infrastructure, our own ever-productive and beloved Sen. Dave Umahi, contacted me to send him the details of the roads we had repeatedly discussed,” Soludo wrote.

He said he submitted the proposals on July 3, highlighting two strategic highways for federal intervention.

The approved projects are:

  • Otuocha–Anam–Abaji (Kogi) – a 108-kilometre highway to be dualised.
  • Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) – a 150-kilometre dual carriageway linking Anambra, Imo and Abia to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.

Soludo disclosed that on July 15, he received official communication from the Minister of Works informing him that President Tinubu had approved both roads for design and procurement, marking the first stage of the federal road delivery process.

Describing the development as a milestone, the governor said the projects would significantly boost regional connectivity and economic activities.

“These two roads constitute critical game-changers for the South-East, South-South and North-Central,” Soludo stated.

He also praised President Tinubu for approving the projects, saying the decision reflected a commitment to inclusive national development.

“For me personally, this is why politics makes sense—working collaboratively and building alliances to achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people.”

Commending the President, Soludo added:

“Thank you, Asiwaju. History will be kind to you.”

If completed, the highways are expected to improve the movement of people and goods, reduce travel time and strengthen economic links between the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions.
