Sabrud Consortium Celebrates Prof. Barth Nnaji at 70, Hails His Enduring Legacy in Nigeria’s Power Sector

Sabrud Consortium Nigeria Limited, a leading indigenous electricity meter manufacturing company, has paid glowing tribute to former Minister of Power and founder of Geometric Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, in celebration of his 70th birthday, describing him as a visionary whose innovations and leadership have left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s electricity sector.

In a goodwill message released on Monday in Awka, the Managing Director of Sabrud Consortium, Mr. Chiso Nwangwu, praised Nnaji’s remarkable contributions to the transformation of Nigeria’s power industry over the past two and a half decades.

Born on July 13, 1956, in Enugu State, Prof. Nnaji is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost engineers, innovators and industrialists. His pioneering efforts in electricity generation, distribution and policy reforms have earned him national and international recognition.

According to Nwangwu, Nnaji has consistently demonstrated that indigenous expertise, innovation and strategic private-sector investment can provide lasting solutions to the challenges facing Nigeria’s electricity industry.

“Prof. Barth Nnaji is an exceptional engineer, entrepreneur and visionary whose commitment to excellence has significantly shaped Nigeria’s power sector. His work has proven that home-grown expertise, backed by innovation and strategic investment, can transform the nation’s electricity landscape,” Nwangwu said.

He noted that one of Nnaji’s greatest achievements remains the successful development of the Aba Integrated Power Project, describing it as a landmark initiative that has become a model for reliable electricity supply and industrial development in Nigeria.

“The Aba Integrated Power Project stands as compelling evidence that reliable electricity is the foundation for industrial growth, economic prosperity and improved quality of life. Prof. Nnaji’s resilience, foresight and unwavering dedication continue to inspire stakeholders across the electricity value chain,” he added.

Nwangwu further described the former Minister of Power as a leader whose legacy extends beyond infrastructure, saying his commitment to innovation and capacity building has inspired a new generation of Nigerian engineers and energy professionals.
