Fresh controversy has erupted in Anambra State after the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 13, Mr. Godwin Eze, ordered a full-scale investigation into the mysterious death of a staff member of Golden Oil Industries, Mr. Frank Kenechukwu, inside the company’s premises in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

What was initially described as a case of “slumping and dying” has now taken a dramatic twist, with the deceased’s family alleging foul play and insisting that Frank was brutally murdered during his night shift.

The shocking incident reportedly occurred on May 11, 2026, at the company’s Harbour Layout facility in Odoekpe.

The deceased’s elder brother, Stephen Kenechukwu, petitioned the police hierarchy, demanding justice and accusing some staff members of allegedly covering up the circumstances surrounding Frank’s death.

According to the family, the deceased left home healthy and full of life before reporting for duty, only for his body to end up in a mortuary hours later under what they described as “highly suspicious circumstances.”

“Our findings showed he was allegedly killed around 5 a.m. while on night duty. We thank God the AIG has stepped in by ordering a discreet investigation,” the petition stated.

The family expressed outrage that none of them was contacted before the body was allegedly deposited at Borromeo Hospital mortuary.

“When I got to the mortuary, I saw bruises all over my brother’s body,” Stephen alleged.

“They claimed he collapsed, yet nobody could explain the injuries on his body or what exactly happened before his death.”

The petition further questioned why the company allegedly rushed the deceased straight to the mortuary instead of taking him to a hospital for emergency treatment.

“It is suspicious that a man said to have collapsed was not taken for medical attention or first aid. Instead, he was moved directly to the mortuary without a doctor certifying him dead,” the family said.

The development has triggered outrage among rights activists and residents, with many demanding a transparent investigation.

Reacting to the incident, Chairman of Fundamental Rights League International, Mike Umezulike, described the circumstances surrounding the death as disturbing.

“For a reputable company, the first thing should have been to rush the victim to a hospital. Taking him directly to a mortuary raises serious suspicion,” he said.

As tension mounts over the incident, all eyes are now on the police investigation expected to unravel what truly happened inside the company on that tragic morning.
