Gunmen disguised in military and police uniforms have allegedly abducted the Chief Medical Director of Crown Hospital, Nkpor, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Dr. Edwin Emegoakor.
The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday within the hospital premises.
Sources in the hospital, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the four-man gang arrived in a black Lexus RX 350 with tinted windows and parked quietly within the facility without attracting suspicion.
According to the sources, the attackers remained inside the vehicle for some time while hospital activities continued uninterrupted.
“They appeared calm and patient. Later, two of them — one dressed in Army camouflage and the other in a police uniform — stepped out and approached the CMD while he was conducting ward rounds,” one source said.
Another source added, “The gunmen held security personnel and some medical workers at gunpoint, collected their mobile phones and took the CMD away.”
The sources further disclosed that no shots were fired during the operation.
“No life was lost because the attackers avoided shooting, apparently to prevent panic and avoid attracting the attention of patients and passers-by,” the source stated.
As of the time of filing this report, family members of the victim had reportedly not established contact with the abductors.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said, “The report has not come to my table, but I will make inquiries and get back to you.”
