It was a moment of pride and gratitude on Friday, February 27, 2026, as the 1999 Set of the Department of Banking and Finance, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, returned to their alma mater to empower students with laptops and financial support for tuition.
The colourful presentation ceremony, held at the CIBN Hall of the University, saw the alumni donate laptops to students across all levels of the Department. In addition, cheques were presented to indigent students to enable them pay their school fees for the current academic session.
The gesture, described by many as timely and impactful, drew commendation from staff and students alike, with hopes expressed that other graduating sets would emulate the initiative.
Presenting the items on behalf of the alumni, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Francis O. Nwankwo, in conjunction with the Head of the Department of Banking and Finance, Prof. Gideon K. Ezu, applauded the 1999 Set for remembering their roots and investing in the future of the Department.
Prof. Ezu, in his remarks, expressed deep appreciation to the donors for their generosity and commitment to the growth of the Department. He charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the laptops and financial support, noting that the items were not merely gifts but tools for academic excellence and personal development.
Representing the 1999 Set, Alhaji Ahmed Inuwa and Mr. Martins Onyegbule reaffirmed the group’s dedication to the progress of the Department. They assured that the set would continue to contribute meaningfully and would not relent in supporting initiatives that promote student welfare and academic advancement.
Lecturers from various departments within the Faculty of Management Sciences graced the occasion, lending institutional support to what many described as a noble and inspiring intervention.
