Anambra state government has ordered full investigation into the alleged trafficking saga involving 35 underage girls from Ebonyi State.

It was reported that the said girls had been missing in their state since October, 2025, but were found in a brothel in Aguleri, Anambra East local government area of the state being used as sex workers.

Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, in a statement Wednesday said the State abhors, condemns, and will not tolerate any form of child trafficking, sexual exploitation, or abuse of minors under any circumstance.

“”The alleged acts constitute a serious violation of human dignity, moral decency, and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, particularly the Child Rights Act (which has been implemented in the state) and the Criminal Code, among other relevant laws.

“The Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) criminalises all forms of child trafficking, sexual exploitation, and forced prostitution.

“In contrast, the Child Rights Act and corresponding child rights laws adopted by states, including Anambra, expressly prohibit the use of children for sexual activities, forced labour, or any form of exploitation.

“These laws recognise the child’s rights to dignity, protection, survival, and development, and they prescribe severe penalties for offenders, which the state will not hesitate to invoke.

“Government has already directed relevant security agencies and regulatory authorities to immediately investigate the allegations, establish the facts, rescue and protect any affected minor(s), and ensure that all individuals or syndicates involved are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law and the facilities sealed for public safety.

“Operators of such modern-day travesty within Anambra State should rest assured that the long arm of the law is actively searching for them, and they will face the full wrath of the law.

“Residents and visitors are assured that public safety remains a top priority, and all lawful measures are being strengthened to protect vulnerable individuals, especially children” the statement reads.
