John Nwosu, the Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC has alleged that security agencies apprehended supporters of APC and APGA caught with over 70-something million naira intended for purchasing votes during the Anambra gubernatorial election.
He claimed these funds were being distributed alongside bags of rice and other inducements to voters across polling units throughout the state.
Speaking on Channels Television, Nwosu expressed skepticism about reported election figures, stating he doesn’t believe numbers being announced reflect actual voting patterns. He challenged the notion that results represent genuine electoral will, arguing instead that financial inducements determined outcomes rather than candidate quality or government performance over the past four years
According to Nwosu, some arrested individuals were prosecuted, but he questioned whether adequate action was being taken against those funding the illegal activities.
He maintained that his integrity prevents him from engaging in vote buying, having announced from day one that he would not compromise his principles regardless of electoral consequences, even as he acknowledged this decision likely contributed to his defeat. John Nwosu said:
“All right, that is and looking at even the figures we don’t believe that the figures that are being reported are the real figures of the election. you if if you ask I’m I’m aware report reaching me says that the security agencies has apprehended the supporters of APC APA in particular caught with over 70 something million naira you know which they are using in buying boats as some bags of rice and all the rest of them. All right, Mr. prosecuted some of them.”
