The Wife of the Governor of Anambra State and Founder of Healthy Living Initiative, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has called on journalists to promote Igbo language, describing it as one of the languages that is fast dying compared to other local languages in the country.
She made the call when members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter paid her a courtesy visit at the Lighthouse in Awka for her investiture as the Grand Patron of the association.
Dr. Soludo used the occasion to urge women in the media to come together, identify with one another and use their platforms to promote and preserve the Igbo language to prevent it from going into extinction. She emphasized that language is the foundation of culture and identity and journalists have a critical role to play in keeping it alive.
She also reiterated her commitment to the Healthy Living campaign, reminding women that health is wealth, stressing the importance of exercise, adequate rest and proper hydration. She encouraged mothers to do their job and stay productive.
The Governor’s wife however expressed appreciation to journalists for their contributions to nation-building and commended women for their commitment, saying that once women are given responsibilities, they deliver effectively.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, described the investiture as a joyous and significant moment for the association.
She said the association was not just conferring a title on Dr. Soludo but welcoming a force of nature into their fold, noting that her signature initiative, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo has become a revolution of wellness that continues to impact the lives of women and children across communities.
According to her, Dr. Soludo’s dedication to health and community development stands as a beacon of hope and an example of compassionate leadership worthy of emulation.
Comrade Ifejika further stated that the conferment was a strategic decision symbolizing NAWOJ renewed drive for meaningful collaboration and the advancement of women inclusion in governance.
The visit was rounded off with the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Dr. Soludo in recognition of her outstanding contributions to healthy living, women’s empowerment and child development initiatives in the state.
