Newly elected President General of Umuoji Improvement Union of Nigeria (UIUN), Chief Cyril Muoemenam has pledged to make peace, unity and progress his priority.
Muoemenam made the pledge in his acceptance speech shortly after his election monitored by observers from Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
He appreciated people of the town for finding him and other newly elected officers worthy to serve, promising not to betray their trust nor abuse the privilege.
He also called on Umuojians to join him in the onerous task of completing and commissioning all existing developmental projects in Umuoji and as well commence new ones.
Muoemenam, popularly known as Buluegwu commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for creating enabling environment for all the communities in the state.
He expressed delight with the comportment of the delegates, before, during, and after the election.
“I thank members of the Electoral Committee headed by Chief Obinna Nwachukwu for living up to expectations. I was impressed with the way and manner the election was conducted,” he added.
Earlier, Regent of Umuoji, Dr Christopher Nnedu congratulated the newly elected officers, charging them to work for the greater good of the community.
The election, which started with accreditation of voters, head count, and voting proper, had 292 delegates drawn from branches, villages, Women wing, Umuokpu Adaora, Umuoji Youth Wing, Clubs that make up affiliate members of the Town Union.
President General polled 243 to defeat his opponent, Chief Cosmos Ikeme, who scored 38 votes.
Other elected officers are Chudi Chukelu (First Vice President General), Chief Emeka Egbueh (Second Vice President General) Engr. Peter Okafor (Secretary General) Comrade Ashinze Nweje (Asst Nat Secretary General), Dr. Uchenna Udegbe (Financial Secretary General) Nwosu Obinna (Asst Financial Secretary 1).
