Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial district, Dr Tony Nwoye has lamented deplorable condition of a major road in the zone, Onitsha-33 Junction-Nkwelle-Aguleri-Ayamelum-Adani road.
The long stretched road connecting seven local government areas in Anambra as well as major link to Enugu and Benue States is also known to be the shortest link to Abuja from Anambra.
The same road had, for a long time remained deplorable, despite Senate’s intervention.
While leading some stakeholders on-the-spot assessment of the road down to Ifite Ogwari, Nwoye called on federal government to urgently come to the aid of the people of the area to ameliorate their plights by commencing its construction.
“This all-important federal road needs to be urgently fixed by Ministry of Works because the road is completely cut off, impassable and in most deplorable condition. It is the worst Road in the whole South East and Nigeria.
“People of Ayamelum and commuters in 7 LGAs in Anambra North cannot access their residences and farmlands because the road is completely cut off and unmotorable,” he lamented.
The Lawmaker revealed the necessary contacts he had made towards the reconstruction of the road, including a motion on the floor of the Senate since July 2023.
“Senate passed a motion on July 2023 vide a motion by me for urgent rehabilitation and construction of this road.
“I had also interfaced with Ministry of Works via letters and personal visits for completion of procurement/ award and execution of this road that had received BPP approval (no objection).
“The Onitsha-33-Aguleri-Anaku-Omor-Ifite-ogwari–Adani Road is an important economic road.
“I passionately appeal to the Honourable Minister of Works and also to President Bola Tinubu for their urgent interventions for rehabilitation and repairs of the road,” he added.
