Kinsmen to detained popular native doctor, Chukwudozie Nwangwu, (a k.a. Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki) from Ezenkwu/Oraelighoba kindred, Umumpama Aboji village, Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra state have begged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to tamper justice with mercy by granting him pardon and clemency.
In a two page petition to the governor, signed by chairman of the kindred, Chinedu Okeme and others, the kinsmen expressed worry over the exit of their son from the community as well as others who benefit and took him as their breadwinner.
The kinsmen disclosed that their plea for forgiveness to their son was predicated on the close family tie between him and them and for his usefulness to the kindred and by extension to the Society.
They said scores have benefited from his generosity, including scholarship to indigent students, assistance to down trodden, widows/widowers, rehabilitation of community roads, among others.
The petition titled, “Special and humble appeal for pardon and clemency. A plea for mercy, in the matter of Mr. Chukwudozie Nwangwu, popularly called and known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki”, partly read, “We are not unaware that the matter is already in the court of law.
“We are also in the know that, even if our said son has been convicted of the alleged wrong-doing, your Excellency can still extend to him pardon and clemency in accordance with the law
“And as the matter is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction, your Excellency can still direct the Attorney General of the state to withdraw same for the act of pardon and clemency.
“An act your Excellency has exercised severally for the reasons of certain mitigating factors, or, extenuating circumstances, which reasons and circumstances are prevailing situations, in the instant case of this our son”.
They stated further that, “For instance our said son has no previous report or history of such alleged wrong-doing or, the like, his prime age, and his vulnerability, many families and persons being dependent on him and who will be adversely affected, and the fact that he has shown serious demonstration of remorse, cooperation with the authorities while in the custody.
“These factors and circumstances we submit are enough to influence your Excellency’s decision to tamper justice with mercy and find it in your heart to pardon our son and show him clemency, for to err is human and to forgive is divine”.
They assured the governor that their son has learnt his lesson especially on the side effect of the use of social media to practise his profession which according to them is not a mercantile product to be advertised through the media.
The kinsmen expressed optimism that the governor will consider their passionate and humble plea as it would promote rehabilitation and social cohesion as well as experience to their son who must have learnt his lesson
