Gubernatorial candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Anambra State, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has criticized Governor (Professor) Chukwuma Soludo, for engaging in what he calls a “comic campaign” of personal attacks, arguing it distracts from pressing issues of governance.

Chukwuma was reacting to recent remarks by Governor Soludo, who during the inauguration of his campaign council, mocked the academic credentials of some opponents, suggesting they were unqualified for office.

In a statement released to the press, Chukwuma dismissed the governor’s comments as a “deliberate distraction” from his administration’s record. “The time for comedy is over,” Chukwuma stated. “Ndi Anambra [the people of Anambra] deserve accountability, not theatrics.”

Chukwuma, 47, positioned himself as a qualified and serious alternative. The statement highlighted his academic achievements, including first-class degrees in Philosophy and Law, and a distinguished Master of Laws (LLM) degree, framing them as evidence of his preparedness for leadership.

The YPP candidate challenged Soludo to move beyond “jesting” and detail his tangible achievements in office, pointing to “insecurity, crumbling infrastructure, and a dwindling social life” as the real issues facing the state’s citizens. He specifically referenced a recent security incident in the capital, Awka, that resulted in three deaths, which occurred on the same evening as Soludo’s remarks.

“We wish to remind Professor Soludo that the progress of Anambra and the safety of the people are far more important than Paul Chukwuma’s age or his own ego,” the statement concluded, asserting that Chukwuma’s campaign would remain focused on its “rescue mission” for the state.

The election in Anambra State is scheduled for November 8.
