Wild jubilation erupted at Obosi community, Idemili North LGA, Anambra State as more than 33 widows were empowered with grinding machines to assist in generating their daily income.
The empowerment was done by the wife of the Traditional Ruler of Obosi, Igwe Nwanyi Kosisochukwu Iweka and her Ugogbona team during their annual Obosi Development Union (ODU) Women August meeting which held at Obosi Town hall.

Speaking during the event,Igwe Nwanyi Kosisochukwu Iweka said that the August Meeting gives opportunity for women to discuss about the well-being and development of their communities saying that empowerment of women was part of the program.
“We are here to empower the widows especially because they have more need of our assistance. We need to empower the less privileged to enable them make a living,” she said.
Igwe Nwanyi Obosi also encouraged the women to ensure proper upbringing of their children as future leaders so that they do not end up becoming touts or nuisance to the society.
The ODU Women Wing President General, Mrs Augusta Ebunam, President Otu Enyi Nwanyi Obosi, Dr. Vivian Ezigbo Onwukwe, Enyi Nwanyi Chinelo Chukwuma in their separate speeches commended the Wife of the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council His Majesty, Igwe Chidubem Iweka Eze Iweka III, Igwe Nwanyi Obosi Kosisochukwu Iweka and all the people who contributed in the Empowerment and making the August meeting a success.
“We discussed on insecurity, empowerment of women especially widows, Youths and the girl child. Widows are facing various challenges in this harsh Nigerian economy. We draw plans to help them in order to reduce their burdens and make a living.
“We also learn how to make good and peaceful homes, live healthy, wear traditional dressing or costume, need to instil moral virtues in our children and young women. We also use this forum to settle disputes among women and raise funds to sponsor certain community projects”, they said.
Some of the beneficiaries selected from across the villages in Obosi community, Mrs Afoma Orakpo, Mrs Victoria Onwukwe and Ukamaka Maduabuchukwu expressed joy after receiving the grinders thanking ODU Women Wing for remembering them in these present time of need. They prayed God to bless the hands that provided funds for the Empowerment.
