Anambra state government has expressed gratitude to the federal government for the consideration of Onitsha as one of the cities in the six geopolitical zones for construction of six mega bus terminals nationwide.
Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor said the commendation came during the 18th meeting of the State Executive Council (ANSEC) at the Light House, Awka.

He said the Council scored excellent conduct of Saturday’s by-elections in Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North 1 Constituency to replace the departed seat holders.
“It was also reported that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction of six mega bus terminals nationwide, one in each of the six geographical zones.
“The South East terminal is set to be built in Onitsha. The council expressed gratitude to the federal government for the consideration and anticipated making the most of the bus terminal once it is built.
Mefor further disclosed the Council’s satisfaction over the Police, INEC, and all other security agencies’ professionalism and impartiality during the Saturday’s by-elections in Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North 1 Constituency.
“With over 64% of the votes, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won both seats by landslide.
“The Council adjudged the election as a simulation for the governorship election that will be held on November 8.
“The Council expressed satisfaction to the Police, INEC, and all other security agencies for their professionalism and impartiality, which enabled the Anambra electorate to speak so loudly with their votes.
According to the Commissioner, the State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), reported that the Awka Shopping Mall was ready for commissioning and had begun hiring the 300 employees needed for the takeoff following commissioning.
“A progress report was also satisfactorily taken on Telemedicine introduced in the primary healthcare delivery system in the state.
“Telemedicine is ensuring that any resident in the state who has access to a Ward’s primary healthcare facility will have access to a doctor through the technology.
“The technology also enables the patient to interact with a doctor when there is none physically on the ground and that way, receive diagnosis and prescriptions,” he added.
Mefor listed contract awards considered and approved to include supply and Installation of Solar Backup Power for Security Monitoring System & ICT Infrastructure at the Lighthouse, Awka, Anambra State by VISCOM Engineering Limited at the contract sum of N101,573,830.61.
“Council also approved the plan for the PHC Leadership Challenge Fund utilisation under strict guidance of UNICEF protocols, the donor agency, in the sum of N1,834,555,000.
“The approved template for their work plans stipulates 30% of the fund should be used for human resources for health.
“50% of the fund should be used for high-impact PHC interventions. 20% of the fund for discretionary interventions.”
