Gubernatorial candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the November 8 Anambra election, Ozo Jeff Nweke on Sunday warned voters against dangers of trading their votes for money.

He said any money spent to buy votes would eventually be recovered at the expense of providing basic infrastructure for the people.

Speaking during his “scriptural delivery” in a pentecostal church in Nkwelle Awka, Nweke described vote buying as major hindrance to good governance.

He warned that electorate who succumb to vote buy would automatically lose moral right to hold leaders accountable for poor governance.

He said, “Politics and governance are tools meant to serve humanity. But many politicians, unfortunately will be moving around on campaigns looking for those to buy over.

“While you, the voters will be expecting to get millions and go home happy. I must tell you that this happiness is momentary and doesn’t last.

“The money you collect today means you have taken your share of basic infrastructure and social security in advance.

“You then lose the moral justification to challenge that politician for failing to provide good roads, medical services, or quality education.”

While urging residents to pray for leaders who would de-emphasize money politics and be committed to improving lives, the AA flagbearer warned that any wrong choice in the upcoming poll would set the state backwards.

Nweke also urged eligible voters without Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to take advantage of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) registration window to obtain theirs.

“Please ensure you register and obtain your voter’s card so you can perform your civic responsibility as a law-abiding citizen.

“You can’t claim to support someone yet not be a registered voter. This means you won’t be among those who can enthrone populist governance in Anambra,” he added.
