In a commendable effort to bolster self-reliance among the youth in Ogidi community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, over 40 young individuals will receive N500,000 each following their completion of a one-youth, two-skills acquisition training program.

This initiative was announced by Chief Stanley Nkwoka, the chairman of the local government, during a vibrant youth carnival at the Ogidi town hall, marking the conclusion of the annual Nwafor festival, which attracted attendees from various backgrounds.

Chief Nkwoka expressed his motivation, stating, “When Governor Chukwuma Soludo empowered 5,000 youths, I was inspired to follow his lead by selecting a youth from each community in Idemili North. If circumstances allow, I may increase this number to two or three per community. The community reached out to me for support, which is why I’ve chosen 40 youths.”

Upon completion of their skills training, the local government will fund these youths with N500,000 each, enabling them to start their own ventures based on the skills they have acquired.

Reflecting on the Nwafor festival, the local government chairman remarked, “This celebration is fantastic! I’m thrilled to see so many young people participating; it was exceptionally well organized.”

Additionally, the community monarch, Igwe Pharmacist Alex Onyido, shared insights about the Nwafor festival, which symbolizes the end of the farming season and a period of rest. He noted that the festival is a cherished tradition featuring various masquerades.

He emphasized the importance of keeping the youth engaged, stating, “When young people are occupied, they’re less likely to engage in criminal activities.”
