Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo has decried disturbing consequences of drug abuse on children and youth, described it as one complex problem that had continued to threaten the social purpose of the society.

In a statement to mark World Drug Day, Soludo’ wife decried that drug abuse has gradually ruined the future of children and young generation whose future is being fighting to safeguard. The stats are scary.

According to her, her pet project, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative had been actively involved in driving education and health care to tackle both prevention and recovery.

She said, “Drug abuse is one complex problem that has continued to threaten the social purpose of our society. It’s one horrible nightmare that has caught us dangerously off guard as a people.

“There’s a strong link between drug abuse and organized crime. A society where drug thrives is a natural habitat for all sorts of crimes and moral deterioration.

“The proliferation of drugs — most sadly in our classrooms and in the hands of school children — is one war that we must continue to approach with renewed strategies and caution.

“Drug abuse is ruining the future of our children; our young generation whose future we’re fighting to safeguard. The stats are scary.

“As an NGO that sees the problem in its most disturbing nature, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative has been actively involved in driving education and health care to tackle both prevention and recovery.

“We’re also collaborating with organized groups, government, and passionate individuals to reach out to more people, including school children who are often vulnerable to the threats.

“We’ll continue to do more. But we can’t do it alone. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or leader of all sorts, this responsibility falls within your work scope. Drugs are stealing largely from us. Let’s break the chains together.”
