100-DAYS: Fedpoly Oko Rector Restates Commitment to Quality Education, Sports Development

Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra state, Dr. Irene Chioma Awuzie has restated her commitment to providing quality education, promoting community service, sports development and culture of excellence.

Speaking shortly after her visits to Chinonso Hospital Oko and exhibition stands as part of activities marking her 100days in office, Awuzie appreciated the Polytechnic community for its support and cooperation.

She paid medical bills of some indigent patients and donated cash, beverages, pampers, and other essential items to others, including nursing mothers and their babies.

The Rector, accompanied by members of the Governing Council, Management and staff of the institution spent time with patients, offering words of encouragement and support.

She extended message of hope to the patients, praying and wishing them quick recovery.

She said, “I find it worthy to visit the sick today as a humanitarian. I have been doing humanitarian services through my foundation, Dr. Chioma Awuzie Foundation.

“But today’s visitation is a special one, done under the auspices of Federal Polytechnic Oko to mark my 100 days in office.

“Human beings are sojourners on earth, bound to be sick and healthy. I pray and wish you all quick recovery.”

One of doctors in the facility, Dr. Reuben Chukwudi commended the Rector for her humanitarian services, wishing her success in all her endeavors.

The Rector also visited the exhibition stand of the institution, which showcased achievements, including projects, innovations, entrepreneurship, community services and research of students, staff and departments.

She seized the opportunity to sort out funding issues that had threatened some of the projects, just as she offered land for the Department of Biology’s zoological farms.

Awuzie also awarded scholarships to two first year Ordinary National Diploma (OND) students of Fine and Applied Arts Department who presented a portrait to her.

She also purchased some of the exhibition products and shared them with staff and students.

The grand finale of the day’s events was the Rector’s Cup, a sports competition that brought together students from various departments. The final match was between the School of Information and Environmental Science, with the latter emerging victorious with a 3-1 win.

The Rector presented cash prizes to the winners, as promised, and encouraged participants to continue striving for excellence.

The event was also graced by representatives from local businesses and organizations.
