The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, has charged the newly sworn-in local government Mayors, their Deputies and Councillors to align with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development agenda and replicate the administration’s initiatives across their respective council areas.

Udeze gave the charge in a goodwill message issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rev. Emma Madu, following the swearing-in of the 21 local government Mayors and their Deputies and the inauguration of Councillors by Governor Soludo.

The Speaker urged the newly inaugurated local government officials to remain committed to good governance, noting that their proximity to rural communities places them in a strategic position to deepen the impact of government policies at the grassroots.

He said, “As leaders who are closest to the people at the grassroots, you must work diligently to renew the confidence of the people in government through hard work, accountability and commitment to good governance.”

Udeze described the inauguration as a significant step towards strengthening democratic governance and accelerating development at the local government level.

According to him, “The swearing-in of the 21 local government council Mayors, their Deputies and the inauguration of Councillors are part of the genuine efforts of the state government to extend democracy and development to the grassroots.”

The Speaker expressed confidence in the ability of the new Mayors and Councillors to deliver on their mandates, while reminding them of the critical role local government administration plays in promoting development and effective governance across the state.

He also commended Governor Soludo for what he described as significant efforts towards improving the security of lives and property in Anambra through the state’s security architecture.
