Security Guard Blames Devil for Killing Female Employer Weeks After Engagement in Lagos

A security guard who allegedly stabbed his female employer to death in her Victoria Island residence just two weeks after being employed has reportedly blamed the “devil” for the gruesome killing.

The suspect, identified as Abdul Latiff, was reportedly employed by Mrs. Marbel Okafor, a resident of Victoria Island, Lagos, in the first week of August 2026.

Just two weeks later, on August 16, tragedy allegedly struck.

According to reports, Latiff allegedly attacked Mrs. Okafor and stabbed her multiple times inside her residence.

The incident reportedly came to light after a neighbour heard the deceased calling out to her security guard and went to check what was happening.

However, Latiff allegedly told the neighbour that his employer was only shouting because she was afraid of cockroaches.

The suspect allegedly used the opportunity to enter Mrs. Okafor’s room, where he reportedly took three mobile phones, ₦10,000 in cash and other valuables before fleeing the area in a vehicle.

He allegedly travelled to Jalingo, Taraba State, said to be his hometown.

The situation reportedly took a grim turn when neighbours later discovered that Mrs. Okafor had died and alerted the police.

Following the report, the Nigerian Police reportedly commenced an investigation and traced Latiff to Taraba State, where he was subsequently arrested.

During questioning, the suspect was reportedly asked why he killed his employer.

His alleged response was chillingly brief: “Nothing. It was the devil’s work.”

The suspect is expected to face further investigation as police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing, robbery and his subsequent flight to Taraba State.

The incident has raised concerns about the importance of thorough background checks and vigilance when employing domestic and residential security personnel.

Police investigations into the case are reportedly ongoing.
