Traditional Ruler of Nawfia community in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State, His Royal Highness Igwe Ogochukwu Daniel Obelle, has dismissed a publication making the rounds that the town is currently faced with increased gunmen attacks.
The Monarch who spoke with Journalists at his palace, on Saturday, said the publication quoted him out of context, noting that the community is safe and secure for Nawfia sons and daughters returning for the Mass Return 2025 celebration.
Recall that a report was published recently by some media organisations quoting the Monarch that Nawfia community in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State, has announced the suspension of one of the major Igbo cultural festivals, “Igu Aro” until further notice.
Further reacting to the report, the Monarch appealed to the Anambra State Government, residents of Nawfia community, Security agencies and the general public to disregard the said publication as the community is peaceful despite the incident of 7th December 2025.
He called on the indigenes of the community in Nigeria and diaspora to come home for Christmas and New Year celebrations and the Nawfia Mass Return 2025, whose preparation is in top gear.
Igwe Obelle, who commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the remarkable improvement in security across the State, urged Njikoka Local Government Council and the State Government to assist in beefing security in the community to ensure a successful Nawfia mass return.
According to him, Nawfia indigenes in diaspora are working towards installation of additional functional CCTV cameras in strategic points in the community to complement efforts of state government and security agencies in the protection of lives and properties of the people to make the area more safe and secure.
The monarch stressed the need for proper training of members of Agunechemba and Operation Udogachi and increment in their salaries to enhance their performance, even as he urged the police to deepen its intelligence efforts in order to prevent crime before it occurs.
Igwe Obelle also revealed that Nawfia community has scaled down the most notable cultural festival “Igu Aro” in the area for the year 2026 till further notice as they are still mourning those killed by gunmen on 7th December this year.
