16 LGA Teams Participate in 2nd Nonye Soludo Female Volleyball Championship

16 Female teams from various local government areas in Anambra state are taking part in the 2nd edition of Nonye Soludo Volleyball competition.

The Competition which was initiated by the Wife of Governor of Anambra state , Mrs Nonye Soludo is aimed at encouraging more female athletes to see sports as a means of Healthy Living and source of income.

Declaring the three day competition open at the Doctor Alex Ekwueme Square, Mrs Soludo urged the participating teams to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the games.

She called on the youths to see sports as a major tool that is capable of not just keeping them healthy but a means to change their economic situations if they performed very well.

Mrs Soludo disclosed that at the end of the tournament, winners and participants will be rewarded and encouraged to aim higher.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman Anambra state sports Commission, Patrick Onyedum and the Commissioner for Health, Doctor Afam Obidike, said the initiative was Lauderdale and aligns with the efforts of Governor Soludo to drive the sports sector and empower the youths.

They disclosed that only 6 teams took part in the first edition while the 16 local government areas participating in the second edition shows great improvement and dedication of the organizers.

In an interview, the Coordinator of the Nonye Soludo Volleyball Competition and Head Coach, Anambra state Volleyball team, Uche Okafor said the championship will run for three days climaxing on the 20th of December when the finals is expected to take place at the Doctor Alex Ekwueme square.

Coach Okafor said a total of about thirty six matches will be played during the championship while about 18 matches had been played with many budding talents already discovered and expected to join the state Volleyball team for national tournaments.
